  • Promotion of Livelihood Security: (Based on Natural Resource Management Approach)
  •

Natural resource management (NRM) refers to the management of natural resources such as land, water, soil, plants and animals, with a particular focus on how management affects the quality of life for both present and future generations. NRM deals with managing the way in which people and natural landscapes interact. It brings together land use planning, water management, biodiversity conservation, and the future sustainability of agriculture, fisheries and forestry. It recognizes that people and their livelihoods rely on the health and productivity of our landscapes, and their actions as stewards of the land play a critical role in maintaining this health and productivity.

PARIVARTTAN has successfully intervened in natural resource based promotion through NRM approach in Kudumulugumma block of the district. The physical interventions include 30-40 models in the upland, followed by 5 per cent model in medium uplands, land leveling and creation of seepage ponds and tanks. The construction of tanks, drop structure, guard wall, check dam, stone bund, diversion weir, coupled with better agronomic practices like System of Rice Intensification (SRI) in Kharif, Cultivation of pluses in Khairf, promotion of summer paddy and vegetable cultivation on homesteads and kitchen gardens in winter. Mixed traditional crops, agro forestry and forest protection for economically viable species, planting fruit bearing trees (horticulture) and established seed bank with traditional variety of seeds close to extinction, with few foundation and certified varieties r have been successfully promoted in this area.   Apart from that inland fisheries and livestock activity too was taken up successfully

  • Community Health:
  •

As per the World Health Organization (WHO), the definition of health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The health status of any community is influenced by the interplay of health consciousness of the people, socio-cultural, demographic, economic, educational and political factors. The common beliefs, traditional customs, myths, practices related to health and disease in turn influence the health seeking behaviour of people (Balgir 2004a). Health is an essential component of the well-being of mankind and is a prerequisite for human development.

The health status of tribal populations is very poor because of the isolation, remoteness and being largely unaffected by the developmental process. Tribal communities are highly disease prone. Also they do not have required access to basic health facilities. They are most exploited, neglected, and highly vulnerable to diseases with high degree of malnutrition, morbidity and mortality. Their misery is compounded by poverty, illiteracy, ignorance of causes of diseases, hostile environment, poor sanitation, lack of safe drinking water and blind beliefs, etc. Also prevalence of HIV & AIDs among the female sex worker is observed.

PARIVARTTAN has successfully intervened in community health focusing on promotive, preventive and curative aspect. The organization has also implemented and implementing various health related project to address health issues of the stakeholder.
